Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt Confirmed

(CBS/AP) According to the entertainment news show "Extra," actor Owen Wilson tried to commit suicide Sunday. 
Owen Wilson is said to be recovering at a Beverly Hills hospital.
"Extra" obtained the Calls for Service report from the Santa Monica Police Department, which shows the reason for the 911 call from Wilson's house to be a suicide attempt.
He was hospitalized in good condition Monday, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a hospital spokeswoman said.
"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.
No further comments were expected, she said.
The actor was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was transferred there from St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica.
It was not known why he was hospitalized, but Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday that the department responded to a call that involved the 38-year-old actor.
The chief would not comment on Wilson's injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.
A neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor's gated house Sunday around noon, The Associated Press reported.
"These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance, then they went into the house," said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives directly across the street from the actor.
According to "Entertainment Tonight," Wilson was later brought to the Beverly Hills' Cedars-Sinai Hospital where he detoxed. The show also reported that brother Luke Wilson was spotted leaving Cedars-Sinai on Sunday night with their brother, Andrew. People magazine said Owen's parents also visited.
Wilson, who recently broke up with actress Kate Hudson, was nominated for an Oscar for "The Royal Tenebaums" screenplay. He has starred in many box-office blockbusters such as "Wedding Crashers," "Zoolander" and the thriller "Behind Enemy Lines" with Gene Hackman.
Most recently, he starred in "Night at the Museum" with Ben Stiller.
It was unknown if Wilson's hospitalization would affect his appearance opposite Jennifer Aniston in the 20th Century Fox comedy "Marley & Me."
A Fox spokesman told the Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety that "it's a totally inappropriate question at this time" whether he would appear in the movie.
Wilson's hospitalization could also keep him from helping to promote "The Darjeeling Limited," in which he stars alongside Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. The Fox Searchlight film was to be released next month.
Paramount also had a Wilson film due out in March: the Judd Apatow-produced "Drillbit Taylor."

Can the Apple iPhone Survive Abuse?
How strong is your iPhone? Abuse is a common problem for cell phone users. They’re either prone to shock or permanent damage when dropped. Else, they can have scratches all over.
How about the iPhone? iPhone abuse has received its fair share or analysis and review.
Resistant to Scratch
There appears to be a consensus among critics that the iPhone is scratch-resistant even if its shiny surface is prone to smudges. According to Steven Levy, a reviewer, these finger smudges, though it turns the entire touch screen mucky, it can be easily cleaned with the use of babywipes or damp cloth. As for its wear and tear, the iPhone is still capable of looking good and new even if they’re jammed all together with pens, keyrings, and coins in your pocket.
Walt Mossberg, an Apple aficionado and a critic, believes that its being scratch resistant is due to its strong lass. Even if it can pick up finger prints, it can’t acquire any scratch, no matter if it has a holster or a protective case.
The Sensitive Back?
Generally, the surface of an iPhone doesn’t easily scratch, but how about its back? Critics say that it’s as resistant as the front, though it can still possess some scratches, primarily in the Apple’s shiny logo. This is the part that is not often protected by any case.
PCWorld’s Stress Test
The stress test performed by Eric Butterfield is considered to be one of the most comprehensive abuse tests done on the iPhone. The phone was subject to a lot of examinations such as scratch test, pressure test, and drop test. The result? iPhone is highly tolerable with pressure. Even if it finds itself being robbed by numerous other materials in you pocket or bag, it can still function normally, with no scratches and no affected application or button.
However, the most surprising revelation is that the iPhone is literally strong. Consider the drop test, which was performed in linoleum, carpet, and concrete. Except for a very minor dent, the iPhone looks brand new and, most of all, functioning.
Some Words of Advice
Now it doesn’t mean that since it passes the abuse test, you will just feel all lenient of it. Remember, these are all one-time tests. Do all of these repeatedly and you’ll see your phone “age” fast. If you want to give it maximum protection, give it a good silicone case. Avoid exposing it to heat. As an owner, you have the sole responsibility for its prolonged use.

Minah rempit step out of boyfriends’ shadows
A NEW breed of illegal racers is menacing the streets with their daredevil stunts – and they are not boys, reported Harian Metro.
These minah rempit do everything their biker boyfriends do, including racing for thrills, money and sex.
The paper interviewed two girls, who confessed they started out by being groupies and gradually learned from the mat rempit how to do wheelies and other acrobatic stunts on their machines.
A self-confessed 17-year-old minah rempit, who identified herself as Lia, said she learned the ropes from her boyfriend.
“I borrowed motorcycles from friends and three months later I could speed up to 130kph,” she said, adding that her skills were still not as good as some other girls.
Lia, who is being rehabilitated at the Darul Islah welfare home in Selangor, claimed girls who mix with street racing gangs are likely to be “spoilt” as they eventually become the “trophies” for the mat rempit who wins the race.
“I was nearly a victim after my boyfriend lost a race and I had to spend the night with the victor.
“I refused and coaxed the winner to take my money, instead,” said Lia, who added that she regretted becoming a minah rempit.
A similar tale was told by 21-year-old Jun.
She said within a few weeks of learning to ride a motorcycle, she had plucked up the courage to do wheelies on her boyfriend's Yamaha RXZ.
“It’s just to show off to the boys,” said Jun of the reason why the girls were turning to racing.

9 To 5 - 47th Funniest Film Ever?
The 1980 film '9 To 5' was placed at number 47 in cable station Bravo's 100 funniest films.
So, is that deserved?
Well, I had never actually seen the film until the other week, when it aired on TV over here and I thought I should give it a whirl.
Of course we all know the Dolly Parton theme song for the film, which was Oscar nominated and won a Grammy. Fair enough, an undeniably catchy tune. But as for the film..?
Maybe it's just the fact that I watched it for the first time in 2007, but it seems dated to me, right from the opening sequence. The clothes, the hairstyles, the office set are all archetypically 80s.
Nothing wrong with that if the comedy stands up, but in my view it doesn't. It seems laboured to me, with no laugh-out-loud moments.
The film has a vaguely amusing premise, where 3 under-recognised female office workers find their fantasies about getting rid of the boss coming real in a farcical way, but the script just doesn't contain enough laughs for me.
It feels like a tv sitcom without the canned laughter.
So do I think it's a bad film? Actually, no.
On the social commentary front it does a good job for the time, showing that yes, women can do as well as, probably better than men at running an office! Plus it has *that* song!
But is it hilarious? No, not in my view.
Ok, the Bravo list of 100 funniest movies is hardly definitive. In fact I don't think there's a film on it before 1970, but would '9 to 5' get on *any* 100 funniest movie list?
I think it is held in fond memory due to it being Parton's first film, and a mighty good job she did too, even if she was playing a good old country girl - I've nothing against type-casting!
So, to sum up, I think '9 to 5' is an ok film. I'd call it a journeyman film, worth seeing to say you have seen it, but deserving a place in the pantheon of Hollywood mirth makers...maybe not.

iPhone EU Carriers Confirmed in France, UK, and Germany
Apple Insider confirms that T-Mobile Germany and Orange of France and 02 of the UK will have exclusive rights to the iPhone. The report was based on an article in the Financial Times, so we can be pretty sure of accuracy, and if it's not true, we can at least point fingers at the limey bastards.
Apple earns 10% of all revenues made from "calls and data transfers", hinting at a data plan that is not flat. (Should we say thanks to AT&T?!). The phones, like many in Europe and like the iPhones here, won't be subsidized. Supposedly, the iPhone partnerships will be announced at IFA in Berlin the end of this month.
